"Tommy Can You Hear Me?"

I developed a signature movement, a kind of physical
vocabulary for the louts, with their heads bobbing and through the show, you can see the
development of these movements, starting with "Sensation".
- Wayne Cilento, Choreographer

The louts didn't exist at all until we
thought them up for the musical, and I think they've become critical to the story. They
actually grow up with Tommy, and he, in a sense, becomes one of them. Ironically, although
they abuse him, it's through this interaction that a kind of love for him comes about.
Finally, as his security guards, they protect him. The louts turned into six wonderful
through-line characters, and I'm very fond of them.
- Des McAnuff
